Celebrates the 80th Anniversary of New Chinatown
Los Angeles Chinatown Corporation has reached a milestone this year, celebration 80 years of New Chinatown. This Iconic location is a visual symbol of new and emerging traditions steeped in a rich cultural history of the first Chinese settlement in Los Angeles. Todays board members are direct descendants of its founding fathers.
To celebrate, the community will gather together at Central Plaza, 943 N. Broadway, Los Angeles CA 90012 starting at 5:00 pm to enjoy a night of local food vendors and performances to celebrate the rich Chinese culture. The red-carpeted events cocktail hour will kick off with the most traditional dim sum tasting. There will be a feast of whole Roasted Pig and Peking duck carving stations to enjoy with the traditional celebratory Chinese dishes.
Prior to dinner, the Los Angeles Chinatown Corporations directors along with Shannon Lee, of the Bruce Lee Foundation, will unveil the newly installed Bruce Lee Statues pedestal on Sun Mun Way and Jung Jing Road, inside Central Plaza.
Entertainment festivities highlights will include music from singer and songwriter Sam Tsui featuring Casey Breves.
Sam Tsui has been hailed as an Internet singing sensation, was among the first musicians to establish a hugely popular music-focused channel on Youtube. To date, his videos, including covers, medleys, and mashups, have amassed over 500 million hits on Youtube alone, with each new release, including his debut original album Make It Up, and his brand new 2018 album "Trust" contributing to his ever-expanding worldwide fanbase. A graduate of Yale University, Tsui has been able to harness the ever-changing tools of the digital music age to independently create an internationally popular channel and brand, garnering him countless TV and magazine appearances, including the Oprah Show and Ellen Show. Sam continues to use his powerful digital platform to share his distinctive music and creative video content with his fans, the "Samily".
There will also be the 8 lions, to commemorate each decade of the Anniversary, along with a dragon dance performed by The Immortals to engage the audience.
The brightly coloured costumes of the playful lions and ferocious dragons, the sounds of drums, gongs, cymbals, and the smell of incense and firecrackers delight the senses as these skilled Gung Fu fighters display their physical strength and expertise in weaponry.
Elected Officials, Celebrities, Community Leaders, Miss Los Angeles Chinatown current and past court members with LA Chinatown Stakeholders will all join together to commemorate this momentous event.
