Today, the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) endorsed Initiative 1634 in Washington State, which would bar local governments from enacting taxes on groceries.
CCAGW President Tom Schatz released the following statement:
“Initiative 1634 offers an opportunity for Washington voters to embrace sound fiscal policy by closing the loophole that allows local governments to impose grocery taxes. Increased local taxes on food and beverages are discriminatory and highly regressive. They are a major threat to Washington taxpayers and allow politicians to cover up their wasteful spending. By voting YES on Initiative 1634, Washington taxpayers can send a strong message: keep local governments out of grocery carts.”
