Toronto Talkies is Preparing to Launch Two New Productions

TORONTO - October 18, 2018 - (Newswire.com)

Director of Toronto Talkies Aravinthan Ratnasingam has announced that the film production house will be launching two new projects.

Toronto Talkies’ first production was a 2012 action love story named Kadhal Pisase. It was filmed entirely in Southern India and starred Aravinthan Ratnasingam, Anitha Reddy, Mithuna and comedian Santhanam. Following the success of Kadhal Pisase, Toronto Talkies has been focused on building strategic partnerships. They’re now shifting gears once again to bring more films to the big screen and other content distribution platforms.

Both of Toronto Talkies’ upcoming projects will be Tamil language films, filmed in Chennai, in Southern India and in Toronto, in Canada. Ratnasingam has chosen these two locations for very particular reasons. Chennai is the hub for the Tamil film industry. An industry which had the second-largest overseas market for Indian cinema by 2016 – second only to Bollywood. According to analysis by the “The Hindu,” a leading Indian daily, the largest overseas markets for the Tamil film industry are Malaysia, USA, Singapore, Europe and U.K., Middle East, Sri Lanka, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. They account for the bulk of the annual revenue generated by the overseas market.

Toronto, meanwhile, is the largest city within one of the key markets for Tamil films and home to a large Tamil diaspora. Ratnasingam shares that Toronto’s combination of a viable market and support of the film industry (which has earned it the moniker “Hollywood North”) has made it an ideal home base for Toronto Talkies:

“I’m thrilled to be kicking off two new projects in Toronto. As a proud Torontonian, Tamil Canadian and film enthusiast, I can’t think of a better space to be in. Toronto is one of the top-five screen-based industries in North America, with all of the resources in place to ensure the success of any production. And we’re excited to see how this will impact Toronto Talkies’ production opportunities.”

Aravinthan Ratnasingam was not only the producer but the director and also the romantic lead in Kadhal Pisase. Asked if he plans to make any returns to these roles, he reaffirmed that film production will be his main focus going forward.
