Filmmaker Phoenix Quwais: Why black people don't vote Republican and why they should

Los Angeles, Oct 20, 2018 (Issuewire.com) - MLK, Colin Powell, Condeleezza Rice, Shaquile O'Neil, Curtis "50 cents" Jackson, Hiram Revels, Herman Cain, Booker T Washington, Mike Tyson, Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglas, Jackie Robinson and of course, Kanye West. What do these African-Americans have in common? No, they're not NAACP Image Awards nominees, they're actually all famous Republicans. No fucking way!, they say to me. Yes, way!, I retort. How come?, they say; "Republicans are racist and the Republican party is not the political party for black people". Isn't it?

Black people say Trump's racist!. Is he? I didn't see Obama pardoning Boxer Jack Johnson; one of the most abrasive American negros in American history. Obama never did it, Trump did. Would a man racist against black people have someone like Omarosa as a political aide? Think about it! Everyone has their prejudices deep down and so do black people. If Trump has any towards African-Americans then they're insignificant enough to facilitate an Omarosa as a political aide and a Kanye West as an ardent supporter. So how racist can Trump be? And for that matter, how racist can the Republican party be? And speaking of racist political parties, did you know that the Democrats were the largest party in the South during slavery and reconstruction? Did you know that the KKK were themselves Democrats back in the day? Did you also know that the Democrats opposed the abolition of slavery and fought to keep black people in chains? Yes, these were the days prior to the coming of the Messiah that was Bill Clinton.

I had a dream once and in that dream, I asked President Obama why black people aren't Republicans these days, even though the Republican party was the original party of the black man in America? Obama told me, "It's due to a fundamental difference in ideology!"

Lincoln emancipated the slaves and paved the way for the first black politicians who were all Republicans; the first two were both from Mississippi. The Republican party back then was viewed as the party of emancipation. The party of progression. The party of a unified nation under God. Now, on the other hand, the Democratic party had the South as its stronghold and was seen by blacks to represent slavery, oppression, secession, and I can go on and on about Jim Crow laws, racial segregation, and the restriction of black labor and voter rights, but it's all available online and in libraries for those with a keen interest in American history.

The Democratic party disenfranchised blacks way back when and led to the Black Republican. Roosevelt caused the shift in allegiance from Republican to Democrat during the Great Depression and due to his policies on how to deal with it. But Roosevelt wasn't the main or only reason African-Americans don't vote Republican anymore; Barry Goldwater I think to be the culprit here.

To those of us who have forgotten American history or never bothered to learn it, Barry Goldwater was a great Politician and a great man. He was racist and bigoted, but nonetheless a great man. The reason I say he was a great man is because Barry Goldwater streamlined the military chain of command in 1986. The Goldwater/Nichols Act and the DoD reorganization, he was behind all of that. He was also the 1964 Republican nominee for President. He lost in landslide fashion to one Lyndon Johnson, winning just six out of fifty states. That was a broad overview of Goldwater's good points. Now for the main and catastrophic bad point that alienated African-Americans and contributed to a seismic shift in party allegiance in the United States... Barry Goldwater was the leading and loudest roaring voice AGAINST the Civil Rights movement and Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Of Jewish heritage originally and the son of Polish immigrants, Barry Goldwater lost to Lyndon B. Johnson in the presidential race and counted the KKK among his most ardent supporters, though he publicly denounced them. For that time, Goldwater was considered too far Right Wing for the mainstream. The man specialized in defense policy and his miserable loss in the election brought down the GOP, though he won Mississippi easily with 87% of the vote for his opposition to the Civil Rights Act and the New Deal in a South that was predominantly Democrat. So I guess it can be said that Barry Goldwater and the Republican party's support for him and his policies way back when is the reason for the black shift in allegiance towards the Democrats. But this is now the 21st century and in 21st century America, the Republican party is no longer the enemy or the advocate of oppression towards African-Americans. Donald Trump's bromance with Kanye West is an example of the "mending of fences" happening now.

Let us denounce the Democrats for the damage they've done to America since prior to the reconstruction era. Let us denounce the original party of the KKK and the party that's for open borders in the face of migrant caravans and Muslim extremism. Let us denounce the party of conjecture. Let us denounce the party of weaklings (Obama aside). The party of Nancy Pelosi... a politician that will argue against a border wall knowing damn well America needs it. A woman who will argue against common sense and tell you that it's a Trump "manhood" issue. Nay maam, it's a national security and future demographic issue. These people or their posterity will shape the electorate and influence elections, and just maybe bring about change to the constitution we hold sacred. I for one can't let that happen.

In the words of MLK, "Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity!". That is what the Democrats impart on America today... sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. So in conclusion, if you want something tangible done, if you want action, and if you want to progress, vote Republican and vote Trump!
