Morgan County, Colorado’s Website Earns Davey Award

Morgan County, Colorado’s new website was selected by The Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA) to receive a 2018 Silver Davey Award. The county’s website was chosen from 3,000 entries received worldwide.

In its 14th year, the Davey Awards focus exclusively on honoring outstanding creative work from small entities. The name is symbolic of David defeating the mighty Goliath with a big idea and a little rock, which is what small entities do every day. Morgan County’s website was judged according to the standard of excellence set by AIVA professionals representing media, advertising and marketing.

The standard of excellence includes efficiently meeting users’ expectations. “We worked really hard on our website redesign so it would improve the experience for citizens,” said Trisha Coberly, web developer for Morgan County. “We wanted to make sure it reflected the way citizens think when they are looking for information or trying to complete a service instead of arranging content by county department. We also wanted to make sure that they could find what they needed in one or two clicks.”

In addition to user-focused navigation that emphasizes getting users to typical services such as completing applications, requesting copies, reserving county facilities or making payments faster, the website features a powerful calendar. Google calendar combines activities from several, busy county departments and then separates content by department. This flexibility allows each department to efficiently maintain its own calendar while ensuring citizens always have access to current information.

“Counties are responding to the increasing demand for digital services and information,” said Colorado Interactive (CI) President and General Manager, Mike Ansley. “Morgan County has listened to its citizens and transformed its website to being citizen-centric, and now the county is being recognized for good work.”

Morgan County utilized Colorado Interactive (CI) and the Statewide Internet Portal Authority’s (SIPA) proprietary platform to rapidly develop its new website. CI provides digital government services to state agencies, local governments and educational entities through a contract with SIPA — the official internet portal connecting the public with Colorado government. The partnership’s mission allows government leaders to focus on delivering on-demand, digital government solutions without requests for proposals or the use of tax appropriations.

"The SIPA/CI partnership is a valuable tool for Colorado governments of all sizes and, as the official state portal, we strive to assist governments in giving residents access to information on a secure and accessible platform," said SIPA Executive Director Jack Arrowsmith. "It is exciting to see that Morgan County's efforts to continue to create an efficient and transparent online space for citizens is being honored with this award."

The SIPA/CI partnership has benefited more than 30 counties across Colorado. Eligible government entities in need of free website development and hosting as well as payment processing through the Colorado.gov web portal should contact SIPA.
