Beverage Universe Helps You Navigate the World of Water

What's in Your Water? Water Terms You Need to Know

NEW YORK, NY, January 25, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Water is essential to life and sources and types of bottled water abound now more than ever. With the plethora of bottled water choices on the market, how do you know which one is right for you? Beverage Universe has the answer! Here's our primer to help you navigate the world of water.

It might be see-through, but there's more to water that meets the eye! And with so many companies offering so many benefits from their particular brand of bottled water, it can be hard for the average person to even wrap their head around it! From pH to flavor enhancements, here's what you need to know if you're trying to find the right water for you.

Sparkling or Still?
Let's start off with an easy, but important distinction to make when choosing between different types of waters. Sparkling water is water that's been carbonated with CO2 and still water is, well, just that. While the little bubbles formed by carbonation may not look like much, their presence drastically changes both the flavor and texture of the water. Sparkling water enthusiasts will tell you that the effervescence and slight acidity carbonation adds makes water easier and more fun to drink, but others find the fizziness to be an unpleasant addition to a drink as simple as water.

Finding Your (pH) Balance
Here's a quick science lesson: pH is the scale used by chemists to determine how acidic or basic a liquid is. We won't get into the hard science of what those terms mean, but to put it into more understandable terms, basic solutions are things such as household cleaners while acidic solutions include corrosive acids and even things such as vinegar and lemon juice. Normally, the pH of pure water sits at 7 (neutral pH), but a recent trend has been to raise this up to around 7.5. If you see a brand of bottled water that says "alkaline" or "ionized", this is what it's referring to. Alkaline water has a taste all it's own, and many people claim a bevy of health benefits from it such as added hydration, boosts to immunity, and an overall lowering of acidity in the body. However, many of these claims are not backed by ironclad science, so take them with a grain of salt.

Analyzing Additives
Many brands add a variety of extra ingredients into their bottled water for various reasons. The most common of these are flavorings and sweeteners. Adding more flavor makes it easier for people who otherwise aren't a fan of water's mostly non-existent taste to get that all-important hydration. The other common addition you will see touted by water brands is health additives. Because while water is certainly a healthy enough drink on its own, mixing in things like minerals and electrolytes can make it easy to have a much more balanced diet with water alone.

The world of water is a wider one than most people expect, so hopefully this article has made it a little easier to navigate. If you're ready to take this knowledge and find your perfect water brand, why not stop by Beverage Universe?
