Dash Cams To Be Made Compulsory For All Cars In The UK, Expert Claims

Moves to make Dash Cams compulsory by law could become inevitable as they become a standard feature of new cars and vehicles. The cost of regular Dash Cams is falling, in part because of this.

It’s quite likely that soon dash cameras will be just as common in people’s cars as SatNavs. But there are now calls to make them a legal fixture. New research from GoCompare Car Insurance found that already 25 per cent of drivers in the UK would like to see dash cams become compulsory in all cars. And nearly a third of motorists think the cameras should be fitted as standard in every new vehicle.

In the US, all cars, SUVs, trucks and vans are required by law to have Rear View Backup Cameras installed. While in Europe and elsewhere many of the newer car models have Rear View Cameras already included.

But now many are calling for the same to be done with front-facing car cameras, Dashboard Cameras installed at factory level in all new vehicles and cars.

“Buying a Dash Cam for your car? Soon you may just have to get the car” an expert claims.

Michael Benwick, a former London Cabbie, driving Taxis in the 90’s and 2000’s, retired in 2011. He now spends much of his time researching and marketing all types of Car Cameras and related accessories, and claims that within just a few years all new vehicles will come with Dashboard Cameras as a feature already included.

“At present there are some obstacles for car manufacturers when it comes to factory installed dash cams, such as extra cost, warranties, and, in some countries, even legal concerns. But as technology continues to rapidly change, it is only a matter of time before regular after market dash cams could be a thing of the past”

“Tesla already has their Model 3 equipped with Enhanced AutoPilot and with the introduction of its latest software update called “Sentry Mode” you will be able to record and store video footage captured by the car’s forward facing camera onto a USB flash drive” he added.

Other high-end of the market car manufacturers have had similar ideas, already offering preinstalled Dash Cameras, often as an optional feature at extra cost, while a few have incorporated front-facing cameras into the design of new models coming onto the market, a short list of which can be found here on ItsHere4u.info

At the moment, only a small number of insurers offer discounts – of between 10 and 20 per cent – for dash cam users, including Swiftcover, RAC and Axa.

But Mr Benwick believes that as the cameras become more mainstream, then more insurers will offer more savings. “Likewise, moves to make Dash Cams compulsory by law could become inevitable, as some of their benefits, to drivers and insurers alike, become more obvious” he stated.

Mr Benwick said “The cost of regular Dash Cams is falling, in part because of the prospect of them becoming a normal feature of many new cars and vehicles in the very near future”.

He added: “I love mine! I Wish they had dash cams back when I was a taxi driver in London, because they would have saved me a lot of trouble back then!”
