SAIC Employees Receive BEYA Awards

Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAIC) announced today that Senior Project Officer Tollie Strode, Jr. will be presented with the Gen. Lester L. Lyles Legacy award at the Black Engineer of the Year Award (BEYA) Conference.

This important honor in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) recognizes Strode’s lifetime of engineering excellence and accomplishments at SAIC. As a team lead for experimentation with robotics autonomous systems (RAS), Strode has made significant contributions to the Department of Defense’s efforts to develop capabilities that enhance the effectiveness of the deployed military.

“I’m honored by SAIC’s acknowledgement of my achievements, and I’m humbled to be selected by BEYA to receive this prestigious Gen. Lyles Legacy award,” said Strode. “In a broader sense, this award represents a return on investment to the many people that poured into me their confidence, trust, and unconditional support during my career that spans more than 40 years. I am truly grateful.”

Strode was nominated by Josh Jackson, SAIC executive vice president and general manager of the Solutions & Technology Group. “We are incredibly proud of Tollie and congratulate him on all of his successes throughout his career. Tollie is a critical member of our team and his accomplishments bring a unique perspective to SAIC,” said Jackson. “Tollie is deeply passionate about robotics, his workplace, and his community, and is a positive, mission-driven team member. He is well-respected by all who have worked with him, and well-known for his impressive contributions to the robotics field.”

Strode will receive the award Feb. 9 in Washington D.C. at the BEYA STEM Global Competitiveness Conference.

Strode joined SAIC in 2009 and currently supports the U.S. Army’s the Maneuver Battle Lab (MBL) at Fort Benning, Georgia. Strode supports engineering programs such as drones, ground robotics, and soldier-borne sensors that have the potential to significantly enhance the capabilities of soldiers on the battlefield. For nearly 15 years, SAIC has conducted experimentation and evaluation of combat unit structure and equipment to ensure our military’s ongoing pre-eminence.

In his role, Strode leverages his diverse professional background and understanding of military doctrine, live-virtual-constructive simulation, project management, and engineering acumen to assist the Army with advanced robotics as a warfighting capability. He first joined a team of analysts and engineers in Ft. Benning in 2002 where they began charting a path for robotics in future military operations.

Strode is a native of Los Angeles, California, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant upon graduation from the U.S. Military Academy. Prior to joining SAIC, Strode held several positions within private industry that used his engineering background in a series of progressive roles, including manufacturing management with Procter and Gamble.

During the annual BEYA Conference, 12 additional SAIC employees will also be recognized for their accomplishments in STEM.
