Former CIA Operations Officer Mike Buscher Announces Run for Virginia State Senate

LEESBURG, VA - Former CIA Operations Officer and National Security Executive Mike Buscher of Loudoun County, announced today that he is seeking the 2019, Republican nomination for Virginia State Senate in Virginia’s 13th District. This announcement comes in the wake of Republican Senator Dick Black’s news that he will not be seeking another term in office. Mike Buscher brings to the race over 30 years of public service which includes serving as a Major in Army Special Operations and nine years as a CIA Officer where he volunteered for deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and various assignments in North Africa,and throughout the Middle East. Additionally, Mike served as the senior CIA Liaison on two Joint Terrorism Task Forces working in conjunction with the FBI and other federal agencies on counter-terrorism operations and investigations.

In addition to his three decades of decorated public service, Mike Buscher brings to the race a successful track record in business and includes launching a start-up from his garage which grew into a multi-million dollar aerospace firm and he currently works as a Vice President at a billion-dollar defense and intelligence firm Headquartered in Northern Virginia. “I’m running for Senate because of the growing partisan divide which continues to damage the State of Virginia while the citizens of this great State are paying the price,” said Buscher. “The citizens of the 13th District expect and deserve a Senator that is committed to addressing tough challenges and I take great pride in the oath I took as both an Army Officer and CIA Officer to protect and defend the Constitution”. Buscher then added, “I have an extensive track record of bridging gaps, unifying people and ideas as well as decades of experience working under the most stressful of environments”. Buscher stated, “It would be an incredible honor to continue my public service for the people of the 13th District and leverage my knowledge, background and skillsfor the benefit of all Virginias regardless of political affiliation”.

Mike left government service in 2010 and opened a successful aerospace business where he pioneered the use of life-saving drones for first responders, the commercial sector and developed patented technologies related to drones. Mike’s relentless spirit was once again tested in 2011 when he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Cancer. Undergoing aggressive chemotherapy Mike survived with the help of his faith, family and friends. As a survivor, he continues to serve his community on the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society "Light the Night" Executive Committee which raises millions of dollars each year for cancer research. 

Mike and his wife Stephanie live with their son in Leesburg, Virginia. He has three children; two grown daughters who live out of State and a teenage son who attends a Loudoun County Public School.
