Extracurricular activities benefit students in many ways and learning that goes beyond the main subjects of traditional education is important to a student’s future. At Dehesa School District, extracurricular activities are offered to their students so they can gain experience in other subjects that may not fit into their normal classroom curriculum. The Enrichment Classes program is offered after school and provides unique ways for Dehesa students to explore exciting subjects and dive further into new interests.
The Enrichment Classes are engaging classes based on the interests of students and are taught by teachers and volunteers from the community. Courses offered vary widely in interest. Some of the classes that Dehesa has offered in the past or are planning to offer include performing arts, music and movement, visual art, science and engineering, cooking, coding, sign language, Spanish, Mandarin, Kumeyaay, math support, functional fitness, and critical thinking. Tutoring is also available to all students during these after school class hours.
Each of the courses offered throughout the year will begin at least three times per year to give as many students a chance to try something new as possible. Multiple courses are offered a time to keep options varied and each course last about eight weeks. These classes can lead to more than just expanding the knowledge and interest of each student attending, but can lead to college and career choices as students find out more about themselves and their own strengths.
