The California Gold Ribbon Schools Award was created to honor schools that demonstrated exemplary achievements during the 2015-2017 school years and has now been integrated in the California Distinguished Schools recognition program. Schools apply for the acknowledgment based on a model program or practice their school has adopted and implemented into their curriculum to help students.
Gold Ribbon Schools are recognized for as being excellent schools that are leading the way in embracing California’s new rigorous academic standards. These schools have improved state testing scores and are an example to every school in California of how to help students succeed in education to pave the way for success in 21st century careers and college. Being Gold Ribbon schools, Hamilton School, Novato High School, and San Marin High School have made gains in implementing the academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education. These include the California Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics, California English Language Development Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards.
