A Life-changing Vacation of a Missourian in Sanderson, TX

By: Issuewire

Midwestern man moves to Texas for a holiday, ends up staying for almost a year.

Pittsburg, Oct 16, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - In the summer of '58, Cleo W. Robinson Jr. had just graduated from high school. When his sister and her husband visited for his graduation, they invited him back to their hometown, Sanderson, Texas, and saying yes was the best decision he had made during his young life.

Cleo would end up staying nine months in Sanderson, becoming familiar to and with its inhabitants and figuring in various hi-jinxes. All his life he and his two sisters had grown up in Missouri and this trip south was a very big move. In the end, he became very fond of the place and its people, so much so that he's recorded the stories in Trails to and Tales of Sanderson, Texas. This recollection of an era long gone, where the people were rugged but warm and the times gentle, is a form of written historical fiction inspired by real events.

Cleo eventually went back to Springfield and enrolled in university, graduating with a degree in Education, majoring in History. He eventually joined the military and went on a tour in Vietnam and spent a few years in Germany. After being discharged in 1978, he remained in the Army Reserves, climbing the ranks, until his retirement in 2004 after forty years of service. Along the way, he earned an MA in International Relations from the University of Southern California. He also holds diplomas from the US Army Command and General Staff College and the National Defense University.

Cleo's work will be exhibited at the Ottawa Book Expo to be held at the Horticulture Building in Lansdowne Park, Ottawa, Ontario, on the 20th of October, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Authors Press booth number AZ01.
