NEON's Craig Mullins Named Co-Chair of 100 Year Archive Committee

NEON Enterprise Software announced today that Corporate Technologist Craig Mullins was named co-chair of the 100 Year Archive Committee within the Storage Networking Industry Associations Data Management Forum (DMF).

The 100 Year Archive Committee is part of the Data Management Forums Long-Term Archive and Compliance Storage Initiative (LTACSI). The LTACSI is a cooperative effort of end users, IT professionals, vendors, integrators, and service providers who are interested in addressing the challenges related to long-term digital information retention, archiving and compliance-related storage practices.

The responsibility of the 100 Year Archive Committee is to focus on market education, awareness and outreach. It is one of three working committees in the LTACSI that collaborate with one another to:

  • Drive technical standards development for Long Term Digital Information Retention and Preservation
  • Identify and develop best practice guides and reference architectures for Long Term Digital Information Retention and Preservation
  • Develop a glossary of terms and a reference model by working with professionals across industries and associations. These definitions and terms will play an important role in the creation of common best practices and standards for long-term digital information archival, storage and retrieval.

I am honored to be named co-chair of the 100 Year Archive Committee, said Craig Mullins, NEONs data management strategist for TITAN Archive. Preserving digital information in the data center is an important issue, and one with lasting effects. I look forward to collaborating with this committed group to develop an industry dialogue about this growing problem, and work towards industry standards and best practices.

As co-chair, Mullins will help lead the education activities related to long-term digital information retention practices by promoting the results of the work done by the DMF-LTACSI. Activities include supporting events, publishing relevant articles, whitepapers and website content, establishing a speakers bureau and building upon new and existing industry alliances.

Its important that the Storage Networking Industry Associations Data Management Forum continue to attract industry experts to participate in the DMF, said Gary Zasman, Chair of the DMF LTACSI. Electronic data protection and retention is an evolving and changing areaone that continues to increase in importance for organizations as new compliance and regulatory demands continue to be tested through litigation.

The 100 Year Archive Requirements Survey was completed by the committee in January 2007. The committee surveyed 276 organizations worldwide to determine what the challenges are that organizations face with preserving and retrieving electronic data.
