U.S. Customs and Border Protection Invites VeriTainer Technology to Tacoma Rail/Radiation Test Center
VeriSpreader(TM) Concludes 14 Month Oakland Pilot Proving Seamless Operations, Ruggedness, Data Transmission & Sensitivity
BRUSSELS, Belgium and SAN FRANCISCO, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- VeriTainer, the world leader in crane-mounted radiation scanning solutions (CMS), has been invited to participate in an Operational Readiness Test by U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection Agency at the newly designated Rail/Radiation Test Center at the Port of Tacoma. The VeriSpreader(TM) crane mounted nuclear detection technology scans shipping containers seamlessly from the crane within the time it takes to load or discharge them from the ship.
"The safety, security and uninterrupted movement of freight is one of the most pressing issues facing our industry," says John I. Alioto, CEO of VeriTainer. "We are thrilled to have been asked by the Customs and Border Protection to participate in tests of this kind of technology at a major U.S. port known for its ship-to-rail operations."
The Customs test marks the end of the second VeriTainer Oakland Pilot Project (OPPII), which ran uninterrupted at Howard Terminal under the auspices of Matson Navigation and SSA Terminals from April 2, 2007 until May 31, 2008. During this extended field test, the VeriSpreader(TM) proved itself market-ready by surpassing the following milestones:
1. Ruggedness. 45,000+ container lifts without incident. 2. Limited Liability Designation. Qualified Anti-Terrorist Technology -- 'DTEV' (QATT) Designation under the U.S. SAFETY Act of 2002. 3. Sensitivity. Two thorough rounds of surrogate source testing, surpassing the ANSII Standard in both. 4. Secure Data Transmission. Data drawn from the bar, collected, stored, and delivered securely in real time to any number of interested parties, such as simultaneously to Origin and Destination Customs Authorities, for example.
"VeriTainer's Crane Mounted System for nuclear and radiological scanning of shipping containers is exactly the type of technology needed in order to effectively meet these requirements while not disrupting the supply chain," stated U.S. Navy Rear Admiral (Ret.) David Stone who served until 2005 as an Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. "It is particularly invaluable in 'transshipment', 'ship-to-ship' and "ship-to-rail" container movement scenarios because the radiation scanning is done as part of the normal movement of the container and the speed of the supply chain is thus facilitated not degraded."
VeriTainer is a sponsor of the World Customs Organization's "What Future 100% Scanning" Conference which will be held June 10th and 11th in Brussels, Belgium. Annie Chew, VP of Asian Markets, and Francesco Bolla, Director of VeriTainer, Ltd., will be attending.
VeriTainer Corporation is the world leader in crane-based radiation detection technology for scanning of shipping containers to ensure that the world's ports are free from nuclear terrorism. VeriTainer's patented technology enables scanning of 100 percent of shipping containers, addressing a principal vulnerability of the world's population centers and allowing for rapid scanning of containers entering and exiting ports without disrupting the flow of commerce.
