Panini Earns ISO 14001 Environmental Certification

In February 2008 Panini accomplished an important step toward the Panini Green Commitment, by passing the final audit to obtain the ISO 14001 Environmental Certification. The audit verified Paninis achievement of ISO 14001:2004 requirements. The audit was performed by TUV, a respected and widely recognized authority on ISO 14001. TUV issued the Official Certification to Panini in April 2008.

As declared in the official Panini Environmental Policy, the ISO 14001 certification is not required by law, but it is an option of businesses. Panini has made ISO 14001 an integral element of its environmental management system.

The ISO 14001 certification states that Panini has created a management system suitable to control the environmental impact of its activities, and that it will systematically and continuously improve the Panini environmental system in an effective and sustainable manner.

Panini activities do not result in any direct pollutant. Panini does maintain relations with third party entities such as suppliers and transport companies, and these supply links fall directly under Paninis environmental policy. The entire Panini team will continue to work proactively with its suppliers to obtain evidence of environmental friendly procedures and processes.

Throughout its 60+ year history, Panini has made defining contributions to the development of check processing technology for banking and financial institutions. Manual check processing systems that require the check to travel from the customer to the bank teller to other banks or processing centers contributes to the development and aggravation of global pollution. The transformation of a physical check to a digital image and process creates, as a significant consequence, the elimination of paper use and the reduction of transportation for both banks and customers.

The new Panini Vision X check scanners, and the brand new Panini Vision S launched at Cebit 2008, establish a tangible example of attention to, and respect for, the environment. Both products are fully compliant with ROHS requirements, entirely manufactured without the use of hazardous substances (lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium VI, PBB, PBDE). In addition, the new Vision X Series has been designed with a power supply, (branded by UL-Underwriters Laboratories), that meets requirements of the California Energy Commission. The Vision S has been equipped with a self switching power supply that will automatically adapt to different electric voltages (depending on country standards), allowing the most efficient use of electric power. In addition, Panini is compliant with WEEE European regulation about electronic waste disposal.

Panini recognizes its natural obligation to give relevance and prioritization to the environmental issues it can manage and control.
