NetWitness Announces Second Annual Charity Ride for Kids to Support Opsoclonus Myoclonus Syndrome (OMS)

NetWitness Corporation, the leading provider of next generation network security monitoring and active threat intelligence software, today announced its second annual Ride for Kids event to take place on June 28, 2008 to benefit children diagnosed with Opsoclonus Myoclonus Syndrome (OMS), a rare autoimmune disorder caused by a neuroblastoma, a cancerous tumor, or a virus. The annual motorcycle ride kicks off at Bob Evans Restaurant in Chantilly, Virginia where participants will ride through historic Northern Virginia and end at Algonkian Regional Park in Sterling, Virginia for a barbeque. Non-riders are also strongly encouraged to attend the family barbeque, which begins at noon, and will include music, prizes and games.

Currently there is no cure for OMS and the price of ongoing treatments are extremely expensive; costing $25,000 a month for only one vial of Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH), given as a shot every other day. This drug is only one of many medicines that diagnosed children require on a regular basis. All proceeds raised in the NetWitness Ride for Kids will assist in the promotion of public and professional awareness of OMS and the research towards improved treatments and a cure.

This years charity was selected in support of NetWitness sales executive Jaci Vilardos six year-old daughter, who was diagnosed with OMS four years ago. OMS is an extremely rare disease and this event provides an excellent means of educating the public and contributing to the efforts of finding a cure, said Jaci Vilardo. The Pediatric OMS Research Fund has been an enormous support system for us in caring for our daughter Isabella and we are very grateful to NetWitness for organizing an event to support this important group.

OMS is so rare that it has been listed as an orphan disease on the National Organization of Rare Diseases with virtually no funding to support research. Though the disease is not fatal, children with OMS can suffer from permanent brain damage. Other causes of OMS can be behavioral problems, learning disability, body tremors, and speech deficiency. To learn more about OMS, visit The Pediatric OMS Research Fund at www.omsresearch.org/aboutoms.html.

Last year, NetWitness annual Ride for Kids event supported the National Fragile-X Foundation. Fragile X is a family of genetic conditions, which can affect individuals and families in various ways. The event raised over $24,000 dollars.
