A federal judge this week blocked the states 10% cuts in Medi-Cal payments to physicians and other health care providers. Yet current state budget proposals still call for such reductions and the State of California is trying to have the courts decision overturned.

Patricia Samuelson, MD, a member of the California Academy of Family Physicians who practices medicine in Sacramento, will speak on behalf of patients and physicians statewide at the 11 a.m. press conference at the Capitol today.

I will speak about the disastrous effects the lack of a state budget is having on millions of patients lives, Samuelson said. Family physicians are calling on our Governor and legislators to fully fund Medi-Cal and other programs on which millions of Californians depend for their health care. Getting a state budget in place is not just a compassionate act its a moral imperative. Every person in our state needs and deserves access to care. By withholding billions of dollars in funding during the budget delay, our elected leaders are compromising millions of patients health care.
