Shares of gold and silver producers climbed as investors sought refuge from the turmoil of the financial services sector. Barrick Gold Corp. (NYSE: ABX) surged $3.73 to close at $32.51, Goldcorp Inc. (NYSE: GG) soared $3.03 to close at $30.59 and Kinross Gold Corp. (NYSE: KGC) climbed $1.26 to close at $14.60. Coeur d'Alene Mines Corp. (NYSE: CDE) rose 19 cents to $1.63 while Silver Standard Resources Inc. (Nasdaq: SSRI) leaped $3.07 to close at $18.09.
