Galveston Walgreens Store Opens to Serve Residents and Relief Workers

Walgreens (NYSE:WAG)(NASDAQ:WAG) has reopened its store at 2501 61st St. in Galveston, Texas, providing needed supplies and pharmacy service to people in the area and relief workers.

Were very happy that we could reopen this store at Hurricane Ikes Ground Zero less than a week after the storm hit, said Robert Jenkins, Walgreens district manager. As of 8 a.m. Friday morning, were providing full store service, and our pharmacy department is opening this morning as soon as that staff arrives.

Walgreens has 210 of its 235 Southeast Texas stores open, providing everyday needs and pharmacy service to residents throughout the area. Walgreens pharmacy patients can have their medications refilled and prescription history available at any Walgreens in Southeast Texas or nationwide, regardless of which Walgreens they normally use. Walgreens also is a member of ICERx.org (In Case of Emergency Prescriptions), a secure prescription information network available to pharmacists and doctors during a national emergency. As a member, Walgreens pharmacists can fill prescriptions and access information for hurricane-affected patients even if the patient normally uses another pharmacy.

Walgreens is the nation's largest drugstore chain with fiscal 2008 sales of $59 billion. The company operates 6,443 drugstores in 49 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
