SITEX 2008: New Record Set for Visitorship and Sales

Singapore, Dec 1, 2008 - (ACN Newswire) - The 20th edition of SITEX, Singapore's longest running consumer IT fair, concluded its 4-day run yesterday with top-notch results, attracting a record number of over 800,000 visitors (up from last year's 751,800) and chalking an estimated $45 million in sales (up from $40 million last year).

Spread across a gross area of 21,300 sqm, SITEX boasts more than 500 IT brands by over 200 exhibitors, with 59 new ones including Zyrex from Indonesia, JokerAG from Switzerland, 3Com South Asia, ECS Computer (Asia), Orange Communications, Western Digital (S.E.Asia), Courts (Singapore), just to name a few.

Said Mr Edwin Low, CEO of Singapore Expo, "We are heartened that despite the pessimistic economic landscape, our exhibitors have continued to show strong support by participating in SITEX and offering a wide range of product offerings and value deals desired by the visitors this festive season. Demand for electronics products and gadgets remains strong; it is likely that consumers are becoming more prudent by replacing the purchases of bigger-ticket items such as properties and cars with the more affordable electronic goods. IT fairs are definitely good hunting grounds for discerning shoppers who are out to look for the best deals during this trying period."

Satisfied exhibitors have affirmed that sales remained healthy this year. Added Ms Mary Lim, Assistant Manager of Marketing & Communications, Computer Systems Division, Toshiba Singapore Pte Ltd, "We were pleasantly surprised with the huge turnout of visitors at our booth and are happy to note we have achieved approximately 30% increase in sales against last year's. As a strong supporter of SITEX, we certainly look forward to participating in the show again next year." Mr Meinrad Flury, CEO of Joker Ltd, a Switzerland-based company which developed the patented Cyber Clean, a cleaning compound that sticks gunk from the computer keyboards said, "This is the first time that we are participating in SITEX. Our objective was to build the business of our unique product and recruit distributors for the key Asian markets. SITEX provided an excellent platform of highly educated consumers to test market reaction, and extrapolate necessary product changes and market strategy in the South East Asian markets. In addition, the timing of SITEX during the year-end festive season also meant brisker sales as consumer IT fairs is one of the best avenues to kickstart the festive shopping spree. We look forward to be back next year."

Ms Stephanie Lee, Marketing Specialist of ASUS Technology Pte Ltd attributes the event's success to good organization and excellent facilities which offer good value to both exhibitors and shoppers. "There is some level of show exclusivity at Singapore Expo without competition from nearby retail malls. This is the forth year that ASUS has participated in SITEX. This year, ASUS launched new notebook models and PDA phones which received tremendous response."

Sitex is organised by the Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF) and managed by Singex Exhibitions. The next edition of SITEX will be held from 26 to 29 November 2009 at the Singapore Expo.
