PECO: Electric, Natural Gas Deliveries to Customers Down in December

Due to lower customer usage and weather, electric and natural gas consumption by PECO (www.peco.com) customers in the Greater Philadelphia region was lower in December and during 2008 as well.

The company delivered 3.4 billion kilowatt-hours (kwh) in December, which was about one percent lower than December 2007. For the year, PECO delivered 39.5 billion kwh, also down by about one percent from the previous year.

Growth in sales, on a weather normalized basis, accounted for 0.6 percent above the prior year. However, milder than normal weather kept consumer consumption down for summer cooling and winter heating.

Residential customers in the region account for approximately one-third of total electric consumption, using 1.1 billion kwh of electricity monthly, which represents on average 800 kwh per customer.

For its suburban natural gas customers, PECO delivered 12 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas, which was about 1.4 percent lower than December 2007. Overall in 2008, PECO delivered 84 bcf, 3.3 percent less than 2007.

Of the total volume, PECO directly sold 64 percent while the remainder was purchased by large industrial customers on their own and transported on the PECO gas distribution system. Residential customers accounted for approximately 43 percent of gas usage in the region.

PECO provides a range of options for its residential customers to manage their energy costs, including choices for bill payment, payment assistance programs, and an online energy audit and energy saving solutions on its Web site at www.peco.com.
