New Postcom Picks Wintegra for 3G and 4G Wireless Equipment in China

New Postcom Equipment Co. Ltd., a leading supplier of TD-SCDMA handsets and base stations in China, announced today at the Mobile World Congress that it has chosen Wintegra for its next generation TD-LTE (Long Term Evolution) base stations. New Postcom will also work closely with Wintegra to develop critical radio baseband (RBB) protocols that will permit New Postcom to upgrade installed 3G equipment to handle next generation 4G technology.

New Postcom, a key participant in the China Mobile TD-SCDMA rollout, is already successfully deploying WinPath processors and software from Wintegra for its 3G TD-SCDMA base stations. However, New Postcom will now also cooperate with Wintegra on the development of the air interface protocols required to deliver high-bandwidth LTE traffic over secure links to 4G handsets in the future. Such software, including the RLC MAC, Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP), Robust Header Compression (RoHC) and Snow3G encryption, is optimized to take advantage of Wintegra’s unique heterogeneous multi-core architecture and accelerators, which reduces power consumption by up to 70% over traditional multi-core processors.

“It is critical that our base stations have the scalability and flexibility to migrate to 4G technologies in the future while still meeting low power consumption requirements,” according to Mr. Peng Fu, Director of R&D Institute of New Postcom. “Wintegra’s technology and business model aligns very well with the needs of New Postcom and our customers.”

“New Postcom has been very active in helping us drive our TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE roadmap, and will be among the first in China to gain access to this latest technology from Wintegra,” added Joe Krystofik, VP of Worldwide Sales for Wintegra.

Wintegra has announced this week a new series of field-upgradeable WinPath processors optimized specifically for 3G and 4G technologies, including integrated hardware support for the Snow3G, AES, Kasumi and IPSec encryption protocols required for 3G and LTE networks. The new processors will also provide multiple connectivity options to the physical layer (PHY) devices on the radio baseband cards, including Serial RapidIO (SRIO), PCI Express, and Gigabit Ethernet. The processor family will be capable of scaling across a wide range of radio equipment, from super-femtocells to high-density macro base stations, while reusing the same software modules.
