As Microsoft focuses on search, Google attacks OS

Google announced late Tuesday plans to launch its own operating system, based on the technology in its browser called Chrome. So far, none of Google's forays outside its core search business have been very successful, but that does not mean Microsoft should be complacent about its crown jewel.
