IQPC’s Corporate Energy Management Summit to Feature Experts from, EMC, the EPA, and the DOE

IQPC ‘s Corporate Energy Management Summit will identify ways for businesses to reduce their energy costs, improve their efficiency programs and take advantage of new energy sources. The Summit will take place October 27-28 in Chicago, IL.

The two-day main conference will feature speakers from major corporations such as Kohl’s, Motorola, Wyeth and FedEx and organizations such as the EPA and the DOE. Attendees will include VP and Director level executives from the commercial, industrial and manufacturing sectors.

Kathrin Winkler, the Chief Sustainability Officer at EMC and a speaker at the Summit, recently spoke with IQPC on their Blog Talk Radio show about EMC’s 2008 Sustainability Report and ways for companies to reduce their carbon footprints and energy costs. She mentioned demand reduction, or finding ways to work without requiring as much energy, as a first step. This includes using occupancy sensors to turn off power when no one is around, changing PC settings and increasing data center efficiency. Companies can also increase efficiency measures for necessary energy by doing things like using energy efficient light bulbs, and working with vendors to use energy star equipment.

The Corporate Energy Management Summit is especially timely because of pending legislation on carbon greenhouse emissions that will impose new standards and regulations for companies to abide by. This legislation will prompt businesses to decrease their carbon footprint and receive carbon credits. Legislation is currently in congress and is expected to pass by 2010.
