Daughters of Charity Health System Negotiates Six-Month Contract Extension with Labor Unions

Daughters of Charity Health System (DCHS) has reached an agreement to extend contracts for six months with its two largest unions, Service Employees International Union – United Healthcare Workers (SEIU-UHW) and California Nurses Association (CNA).

CNA represents approximately 1,600 nurses in four of the six DCHS hospitals, located in Northern and Southern California. The CNA contract has been extended to December 30, 2015. SEIU members work in all of the DCHS hospitals, representing approximately 2,890 employees. The SEIU-UHW contract has been extended to October 31, 2015.

“We want to thank both labor organizations for helping us reach this agreement,” said Robert Issai, DCHS President & CEO. “By working collaboratively with the unions, we have achieved contract extensions that will provide stability to our hospitals as we continue our sale process.”

DCHS has multiple buyers interested in purchasing its hospitals, Issai said. The names of potential buyers are not being released due to confidentiality agreements. “We look forward to partnering with SEIU-UHW and CNA throughout the sale process while always keeping our mission of providing excellent patient care and service first and foremost,” continued Issai.
