New York State Retired Teachers Association of Oswego Offers a Grant for CPR and Choking Rescue Training using the Act+Fast Anti Choking Trainer

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. - June 17, 2016 - PRLog -- Central Square School District was recently provided with a grant that will help obtain materials for First Aid and CPR training of seventh grade students. This grant, offered through the New York State Retired Teachers Association of Oswego County, will be used towards the purchase of training materials for First Aid and CPR education, including four Act+Fast Anti Choking Trainers, an AED, and an airway simulator.

Jim Drancsak, the Central Square School District Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics, said the AED and the Act+Fast Anti Choking Trainers will familiarize students with proper hand placement, body position, depth of compression and set up in order to provide optimal survival opportunities without injuring their classroom peers.

"These materials will significantly impact the student learning experience," Drancsak said. "They will supplement video and instructor demonstrations with psychomotor skills practice."

"Aligned with the District's mission statement, 'to empower all students as citizens in a changing world,' there is no greater need than to increase the population trained in cardiac survival skills," said Drancsak.

The Anti Choking Trainer is a hands-on simulator that allows instructors to easily teach students the correct way to perform the Abdominal Thrust Maneuver (Heimlich). When correct hand placement and technique are used, a foam plug shoots from the Trainer, instantly providing strong feedback and reinforcing muscle memory, so students are confident to act in a choking emergency.

All Central Square seventh graders will participate in the First Aid and CPR education which will also enhance student career-readiness as they search for babysitting jobs and volunteer opportunities through their local volunteer fire departments.
