California American Water’s Sacramento Customers Reduce Water Usage By 20.9 Percent Since March 2013

As the State of California moves into the fourth year of a historic drought, California American Water is pleased to report that customers in the Sacramento District reduced water use by 20.9 percent in 2014. California American Water provides water service to approximately 180,000 people in portions of Rancho Cordova, Roseville, Citrus Heights, Isleton and unincorporated Sacramento and Placer Counties.

In March 2014, California American Water issued a call for a 20 percent reduction in accordance with the Governor’s emergency drought declaration and the California Public Utilities Commission’s Rule 14.1, calling upon customers to restrict non-essential uses of water.

“California American Water customers in the Sacramento region deserve credit and recognition for their great work reducing water usage in 2014,” said California American Water Director of Operations Audie Foster. “In fact, they saved over 2.4 billion gallons of water last year.”

In accordance with state orders, California American Water encourages all consumers to find ways to reduce their water use by:

• Fixing leaks promptly
• Adjusting irrigation systems to avoid creating run-off to streets, sidewalks and gutters
• Using positive pressure hose nozzles (available at no charge from California American Water)
• Using brooms to clean driveways, patios, decks and sidewalks
• Turning off decorative fountains that do not recycle water
• Taking advantage of rebates for toilets, clothes washers, irrigation devices, turf lawn removal and more
• Signing up for a free home water use survey

“We can all continue to save water during this drought by using water wisely – especially outdoors,” Foster said. “Our conservation programs make it easy to save money while reducing water use.”

California American Water will continue to support the Governor’s call for 20 percent reduction in water use this year with outstanding conservation programs and rebates, customer communications, community outreach and regional engagement with utility and community partners.
