Pittsburgh, PA (August 26, 2014) – Restless Leg Syndrome (or RLS) may affect as many as 1 in 15 people, according to the National Institute for Health, with as many as 30% of those people experiencing moderate to severe symptoms. For most sufferers, the only treatment is medication. However, one doctor says there’s a better, more effective way to treat restless legs for most people, and he’s made it his mission to help people calm their symptoms, with very effective results.

Dr. Stanley Lang has been practicing medicine for over 30 years. The Pennsylvania doctor says he’s been treating RLS for many years, since even before it was given a widely recognized diagnosis. “I had patients come in and complain to me that they had pain in their hips and legs, and that it made it hard to sleep – this was 25 plus years ago,” he relates. “I developed a routine of stretches, along with a few dietary tweaks, that significantly improved or eliminated symptoms in 80 to 90% of my patients within a few months, and often within days, and without needing to prescribe any medications, because at the time, there just weren’t medications recommended for what I was seeing.” Restless Leg Syndrome is characterized by a throbbing, pulling, creeping, or otherwise unpleasant set of sensations in the legs, often with an uncontrollable and overwhelming urge to move them. It has been diagnosed in some form since the 16th century, according to Dr. Lang, was rediscovered in the early 20th century, but became much more well known once there were profitable drugs which could be used to treat the problem.

“It is easy to misdiagnose the problem and many patients never seek relief for their symptoms,” Lang said. With the advent of medications that can relieve symptoms, it’s become very common for most doctors to simply prescribe such medicines rather than look at underlying mechanical issues – it is very common at this time to treat RLS primarily as a neurological condition since drugs that are used for other neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease and Seizure disorder are sometimes effective in controlling some symptoms. The problem is, he says, they’re often only a “band-aid,” and not correcting the underlying cause of the issue which is mechanical in most cases.” Worse still, says Dr. Lang, “any time you try to alter the body’s chemistry with medications, you’re going to run the risk of all the problems associated with medication: many different side effects, bad medicine interactions, and cost of the drug. I wanted to provide a non medication alternative to patients”

Dr. Lang has recently released a DVD, Restless Leg Relief, in which he shares the most common set of stretches he would have his patients do. “They’re very effective when done right. The problem I kept having was that patients would come back and I’d watch how they were doing the stretches, and they were doing them incorrectly. I needed a resource could serve as a guide and reminder of the proper techniques and stretching routine.” In addition there are many simple things that can be added to the stretching routines that increase the odds of symptom relief. He continued, “there are a lot of creams, oils, and pills that are available over the counter that purportedly treat the symptoms too, but in my opinion, most of them don’t work very well — with this program I offer a foundational fix for the problem – and once somebody actually goes through the program they will see that it’s good in general for all their health concerns.”

One final advantage of the program is that it is an all natural set of strategies that does not require medical supervision and can be completely done from the comfort of one’s home.
