The Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. is commending Hillary Clinton’s call for automatic voter registration as they prepare to visit DC to launch campaign to restore the Voting Rights Act
PRLog - June 5, 2015 - WASHINGTON -- During a speech at Texas Southern University in Houston, TX on June 4, Hillary Clinton called for universal, automatic voter registration for every American in every state when they turn 18. She urged Congress to restore key sections of the Voting Rights Act, which the Supreme Court invalidated. The Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. (PNBC) is commending Clinton for taking a bold stand to not just support restoring the Voting Rights Act, but expanding voting access to all eligible Americans.
Dr. James C. Perkins, President of PNBC states, “The PNBC is in full support of former Secretary of State Clinton’s stance to create policy that will end the chance for continued racial discrimination at the polls. The Voting Rights Act is of special significance to the African American community, who have been historically deprived of voting rights and disproportionately affected by voter suppression and ID laws. We are urging every Presidential candidate and all lawmakers who are concerned about protecting the right to vote, especially for African Americans, to support these voting rights efforts.”
Clinton will not be alone in the fight to restore voting rights. On Thursday, June 25, 2015, marking the two-year anniversary of the Shelby County vs. Holder decision that stripped the Voting Rights Act, the PNBC and key lawmakers will gather in Washington, D.C. to urge Congress to take immediate action to ensure that all Americans will have a strong and reconstituted Voting Rights Act.
