‘BOSTON’ Takes Fans Behind the Scenes and Into the Runners’ Shoes of the World-Famous Boston Marathon, in Cinemas for One Night

“BOSTON: An American Running Story” tells a timeless tale of triumph over adversity for runners and non-runners alike, as it dives into the history and evolution of the world-famous Boston Marathon.

“BOSTON: An American Running Story” will be shown in movie theaters nationwide on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. local time, from Fathom Events and LA Roma Films. In addition to the documentary, audiences will also enjoy behind-the-scenes footage from the recording of the original BOSTON score, composed by four-time Emmy Award™-winner Jeff Beal (“House of Cards”) and performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall.

BOSTON is directed by award-winning filmmaker/marathoner Jon Dunham, well known for his Spirit of the Marathon documentaries, produced by Academy Award®-nominee Megan Williams, and executive produced by Academy Award-nominee Frank Marshall. This is the first feature-length documentary about the iconic Boston Marathon, known to runners worldwide as simply “Boston.” The documentary chronicles Boston’s celebrated history from its humble origins in 1897 with 15 runners, through 2014’s triumphant race. It showcases many of the most important moments in more than a century of race history and features many of the greatest marathoners ever to have run the course.

About the Filmmakers – Jon Dunham and Megan Williams

Jon Dunham • Producer/Director • Cinematographer

Jon Dunham is an award-winning filmmaker and a 25-time marathon finisher. The fusion of both these passions is reflected in his Spirit of the Marathon films.

Premiering at the 2007 Chicago International Film Festival, Spirit of the Marathon won the coveted Audience Award. It was subsequently released in more than 400 cinemas across the United States, where it grossed over $1 Million in two days on its way to becoming one of the year’s most successful theatrically released documentary films. The critically acclaimed production, which has become a cult classic among runners, was followed by Spirit of the Marathon II in 2013. BOSTON is the filmmaker’s third and final film on the subject and marks the first time in the legendary race’s history that the complete story will be told in a feature-length film.

Megan Williams • Producer

Megan Williams is an Academy Award nominee and recipient of the duPont Columbia Journalism Award. Williams teamed with Dunham in 2002 to produce No Distance Too Far, an official selection of the International Documentary Association’s 6th Annual Documentary Film Showcase.

A former adjunct professor at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, she began her career in the 1970s as co-founder and partner of TVTV — an independent video collective known for its influential body of work.
