AHA Career Center Announces Winners of 2008 Fall NHCN Scholarships

The American Hospital Associations Career Center, announced today the six winners of the fall 2008 National Healthcare Career Network Scholarship program.

The goal of this scholarship program is to promote health care as a career choice for dedicated, ambitious and talented students who are preparing for their future. Additionally, it is aimed at those who are committed to being life long learners, sharing their knowledge through participating in professional societies, community organizations and networking groups.

Chosen from more than 200 applicants, the scholarship program will provide each winner with $1,000 to help them prepare for or further their health care careers.

The 2008 fall scholarship winners are:

  • Marisol Balistreti University of San Diego
  • Jessalyn Gale Duke University
  • Brittney Lutsch Marquette University
  • Nkechi Ileka Catholic University of America
  • Alona Dalusung-Angosta University of Hawaii at Manoa
  • Crystal Rae Kimble Cardiac & Vascular Institute of Ultrasound, Inc.

The scholarships were announced during the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration (ASHHRA) Annual Conference, October 11-14, in Austin, TX.

"The committee was very impressed with the submissions from the scholarship winners," said Anthony J. Burke, President and CEO of AHA Solutions, Inc., "and the AHA is proud to offer these scholarship awards to individuals who are passionate about making a difference in health care. The winners were selected by a committee of AHA Career Center Charter Members (Frankford Hospital of the City of Philadelphia; Health First, Inc.; Main Line Health; Memorial Health System; Scripps Health; St. Lukes Health System; Thomas Jefferson University Methodist Division Hospital; Wheaton Franciscan Services, Inc.) and select staff members of National Healthcare Career Network, American Hospital Association, and Institute for Diversity in Health Management.

As a nursing professional committed to improving health and health care, this scholarship will allow me to give back to the community at large by utilizing the advanced knowledge gained from my degree to make a difference in ones life. I also hope to inspire future generations of nurses and the general public working as an Advanced Public Health Nurse, said Nkechi Ileka.
