3M Library Systems Receives Payment Application Data Security Standard Validation

Today 3M Library Systems sets the library industry security standard by becoming Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS) validated for fines and fees collection.

The extensive process to become PA-DSS validated includes a thorough analysis of 3M’s SelfPay software, regression testing and potential data security risks. The rigorous security policies and procedures implemented by 3M’s software developers, business managers and technical managers ensure data is appropriately handled to meet all certification requirements.

“Protecting our customers and their patrons’ information is a top priority for 3M, and the PA-DSS validation is further evidence of that,” said Matt Tempelis, 3M Library Systems Global Business Leader. “Our expanded fines and fees processing solutions were created specifically for the library market, and offer unique solutions to help make libraries more successful while keeping security top-of-mind.”

While 3M Library Systems has always utilized the PA-DSS validated First Data™ ICVERIFY Software for credit card payment collection at the SelfCheck kiosk, the new PA-DSS validated 3M payment application adds another layer of security for cardholder data.

“As security experts dealing with individuals’ personal information, we approach certification for payment processing with the utmost care,” said Steve Kerns, NetSPI Security Team Lead. “The independent validation assessment conducted for 3M’s fines and fees collection demonstrated 3M’s compliance with the full PA-DSS requirements.”

Other fines and fees collection options for 3M SelfCheck customers in the U.S. include the recently announced integration with Comprise™ Technologies’ Smart Terminal™ Payment System, and a cash and coin collection system.
