I DO WANT TO WARN YOU SOME OF IT MAY BE TOUGH TO WATCH. >> WELL, THIS IS JUST A HORRIFIC STORY, JONATHAN, THE CALM WORDS HERE IN FAYETTEVILLE AT THE DOT FOR MANY YEARS ON MARCH 14TH, HE WAS IN LUMBERTON. HE TRIED TO BE A GOOD SAMARITAN DURING A CARJACKING INCIDENT AND HIS HEALTH AND THE COST HIM HIS LIFE. >> THIS WAS THE SCENE ABOUT A MONTH AGO OUTSIDE A MCDONALD'S RESTAURANT ON WEST 5TH STREET IN LUMBERTON. 9-1-1, OPERATORS RECEIVED A CALL ABOUT AN ATTEMPTED CARJACKING AT THAT LOCATION. THE VIDEO THAT'S GOTTEN A LOT OF ATTENTION ON SOCIAL SHOWS TO AND C DOT EMPLOYEES ACTING AS GOOD SAMARITANS INTERVENE TO STOP THE CARJACKING. WE'RE TOLD THE MAN IN THE YELLOW VEST IS 38 YEAR-OLD JONATHAN LECONTE. INVESTIGATORS SAY WHEN THE COMP TO TEMPT IT TO STOP. 28 YEAR-OLD RICKY DRIGGERS FROM CARJACKING. ANOTHER VEHICLE DRIGGERS JUMPED IN TO LOOK. HOMS DOT VEHICLE. YOU CAN HEAR FIRE SEVERAL POINT BLANK GUNSHOTS AT DRIGGERS BEFORE WE PUT THE TRUCK IN REVERSE AND BACKED AWAY. YOU CAN HEAR SHOUTS FROM THE CROWD TELLING EVERYONE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY BECAUSE DRIGGERS WAS DRIVING BACK AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THAT'S WHEN THE CONVOY WAS HIT AND LATER DIED AT THE HOSPITAL. ONE OR 2 POLICE OFFICERS SAW THE SUSPECT AS HE WAS FOR ME DURING HIS WAS ARRESTED A SHORT TIME LATER AFTER HE WRECKED THE STOLEN VEHICLE ON SELMA ROAD NEAR HIGHWAY. 41 THE NC DOT ISN'T COMMENTING ON THE INCIDENT BUT SENT THIS STATEMENT WHICH READS IN PART OUR PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS ARE WITH THE FAMILY OF JONATHAN LECONTE. HE WAS A DEDICATED 16 YEAR EMPLOYEE OF THE DEPARTMENT WORKING FOR THE SIGNED A VISION OF THE DIVISION, 6 TRAFFIC SERVICES UNIT. JONATHAN WAS GREATLY ADMIRED AND WILL BE SINCERELY MISSED. DRIGGERS FACES SEVERAL CHARGES, INCLUDING FIRST DEGREE MURDER AND LARCENY OF A MOTOR VEHICLE.
