A UNC Health physician and pilot were taken to the hospital Wednesday after a small plane crashed at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU).

THE PLANE OPERATED BY UNC MEDICAL SERVICES REMAINS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RUNWAY. 6 HOURS LATER. I THANKS SO MUCH FOR JOINING US. I'M LENA TILLETT ON DAN HAGGERTY. THE SECONDARY RUNWAY HERE AT RDU REMAINS CLOSED RIGHT NOW. IN THE PAST HOUR, WE HAVE LEARNED THAT THE PILOT AND THE PASSENGER A POSITION ON BOARD. &gt;&gt; WE'RE TALKING AND ALERT WHEN WAKE EMS RUSHED THEM TO THE HOSPITAL. BUT THIS WAS A HUGE DISRUPTION TO THE ENTIRE AIRPORT. THE FAA ISSUED A GROUND STOP AT RDU FOR ABOUT 90 MINUTES. STOPPING ALL ARRIVING AND DEPARTING COMMERCIAL FLIGHTS. TAKE A LOOK AT THE FLIGHT PATH FROM FLIGHTAWARE DOT COM. IT SHOWS THE SMALL SINGLE ENGINE PLANE WAS RETURNING TO RDU AFTER AN EARLY MORNING FLIGHT TO WILMINGTON WHEN IT WENT DOWN. MONICA, TELL US THE LATEST. &gt;&gt; YEAH, WE KNOW WE ARE STARTING TO SEE SOME CHANGES OVER HERE ON THE RUNWAY BEHIND ME. MOST OF THE AIRPORT AUTHORITY POLICE OFFICERS WHO WERE CLUSTERED AROUND THIS AREA ARE NOW GONE. WE ARE SEEING A GROUP OF PEOPLE STANDING SIGNIFICANTLY CLOSER TO THE CRASH. NOW TALKING WITH EACH OTHER. THERE WAS A MUCH LARGER PRESENCE WHEN WE ARRIVED ON SCENE AROUND 11 THIS MORNING, SKY 5 CAPTURED THIS VIDEO QUICKLY AFTER THE CRASH. RDU TELLS US ALL THIS HAPPENED AROUND 10, 10 THIS MORNING AND THE FAA ISSUED A GROUND STOP TO KEEP ALL TRAFFIC FROM COMING AND GOING. THIS IS A SINGLE ENGINE STACCATO. TBM 700. IT IS OWNED BY MEDICAL AND OPERATED BY UNC AIR OPERATIONS. &gt;&gt; I THINK OUR PRIMARY FOCUS WHEN THAT ACCIDENT OCCURRED, WHERE THE 2 PEOPLE SITTING IN THAT AIRCRAFT, OUR PRIMARY MISSION IS TO MAKE SURE WE CAN GET TO THEM AND TRY TO RESCUE THEM TO TRY TO MAKE SURE THAT WE CAN GET THEM IN A SAFE CONDITION AS BEST WE POSSIBLY CAN. SECONDARILY IS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THAT HOW WE RECOVER GET OPERATIONS BACK UP AND RUNNING. &gt;&gt; UNC HEALTH TELLS WRAL THAT PLANE WAS CARRYING DOCTOR PAUL CHO MINSKY. HE IS AN INTERNAL MEDICINE PHYSICIAN. THERE HE WAS COMING BACK FROM WILMINGTON AFTER A LECTURE HE WAS TAKEN TO UNC HOSPITAL IN CHAPEL HILL AND WAS IN GOOD CONDITION. HE HAS SINCE BEEN RELEASED AND WITHIN THE LAST 30 MINUTES, WE HAVE ALSO NOW LEARNED THAT PILOT ISN'T IN OUR JOHNSON. HE JOINED UNC IN 2013. HE WAS TAKEN TO DUKE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL AND UNC HEALTH TELLS US THAT PILOT IS IN FAIR CONDITION RIGHT NOW. MONICA CASEY REPORTING LIVE FOR US AT RDU. THIS IS THE FAA SAYS AIR PORT DIAGRAM OF RDU. JUST GIVE YOU SOME IDEA. THAT'S TERMINAL ONE HEARS TERMINAL 2 AND THE 2 MAIN RUNWAYS THAT PLANE WAS COMING IN ON RUNWAY. 32, ACCORDING TO INFORMATION WE GOT FROM FLIGHTAWARE, THE WRECKAGE ENDED UP HERE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF RUNWAY 5.32. THERE. SO IT IS INDICATES THAT THE PLANE MAY HAVE CROSSED THAT MAJOR RUNWAY THERE NEAR TERMINAL ONE, OF COURSE. AND T S P INVESTIGATORS ARE INVESTIGATORS ARE STILL ON THE SCENE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED THERE. I JUST CHECKED WITH RDU. THEY ARE REPORTING RIGHT NOW. 27 DELAYS. SO THIS CRASH IMPACTED A TON OF PEOPLE TODAY. RDU HAS ROUGHLY 14 AND A HALF MILLION PASSENGERS THAT CAME THROUGH HERE JUST LAST YEAR. AND THIS MORNING, MANY LEARNED ABOUT THE DELAY, RIGHT AS THEY GOT HERE, SOME PASSING THROUGH RALEIGH HAD TO CROSS THEIR FINGERS THAT CATCH THEIR CONNECTIONS AND TIME WHILE OTHERS WHO CALL RALEIGH HOME HAD A BETTER PLAN. &gt;&gt; THEY JUST HAD GROUNDSTOP. SO NO INCOMING OR OUTGOING PLANES. SO EVERYBODY TO KNOW. &gt;&gt; WE'RE HOME TO RALEIGH HAVE COME BACK. &gt;&gt; AND THAT MAN SAID THAT HE WAS GOING TO COME BACK HERE IN ABOUT 3, 4, HOURS SO HE COULD CATCH HIS FLIGHT.
