Nova Graphene To Develop Graphene-Enhanced Rubber For Canadian Plastics Innovation Challenge

By: PRLog

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia - April 26, 2023 - PRLog -- Nova Graphene has been announced as a recipient of the Canadian Plastics Innovation Challenge, aimed at reducing plastic pollution from tire wear in Canada. The goal is to develop a graphene-enhanced rubber that will reduce tire-wear shedding and extend the life of tires.

Microplastics from tire wear are a global problem, recognized as a significant source of plastic pollution. Once released into the environment, microplastics persist for a long time and accumulate in natural habitats, potentially impacting ecosystem health.
"We are confident that our proprietary blend of graphenes will enable the formulation of a high-performance, high-performance rubber that will wear more slowly, thereby reducing the amount of microplastics released into the environment," said Paul Beasant, CEO of Nova Graphene.

"This funding will help innovative companies thrive while providing solutions to the auto sector ecosystem to mitigate tire wear and contributing to Canada's transition to a cleaner and greener future," said the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry.
