Nowadays, one of the most common types of both women’s and men’s clothing is a hoodie, or as it is also called a sweatshirt.
Let’s understand when and under what circumstances such clothes appeared.

It all began in the 1930s, when the notorious American clothing manufacturer “Champion” introduced the very first versions of such sweatshirts. It was at that time that progress in light industry reached to the use of thick fabrics. The most popular version says that hoodies were invented for workers in New York warehouses, who needed warm clothes.

As Champion partnered with schools and universities, local sports teams began to wear these sweatshirts en masse. It was something new in the fashion world, so the comfortable hooded sweatshirt quickly became popular among American youth. Hoodies were applied to the logos of the universities and sports teams, which became a kind of identifier of their own on the streets.

In 1976 came out the first part of the legendary “Rocky”, where the main character played by Sylvester Stallone, now and then wears a hoodie. In fact, there is quite a logic in it – the athletes loved hoodies, they did not allow to cool down during training.

After the release of this film the hoodie gained popularity all over the world. As is often the case, the movie really set a new trend in street fashion.

Due to its popularity, in the 1980s the hoodies attracted the attention of the world’s famous designers, each of whom offered their own variants of these hoodies.

Because of their stylish appearance, comfort and brevity, hoodies gained popularity in the ghetto. Because of this, in the 1990s hooded sweatshirts were firmly associated with crime and gangs.

Naturally, not only criminals loved hoodies, they were and are being worn by people of all kinds of professions. For example, hoodies are tightly integrated into the lifestyle of skaters, rollers, runners and representatives of other urban sports.
