July 15, 2024 – TheNewswire – Calgary, Alberta – Carbon Management Canada (CMC) is pleased to announce geoLOGIC systems ltd. (geoLOGIC) as its newest Joint Industry Partnership (JIP) Program member. The new partnership will allow CMC access to extensive subsurface databases including well logs, core, and flow tests for all of Western Canada through geoLOGIC’s integrated mapping and analytics program, geoSCOUT®. The data sets gathered will feed into CMC’s reservoir simulations, facilitating the study of geological variations within the reservoirs and their impact on CO2 storage efficiency in saline aquifers as well as regional pressure plume interactions. CMC can then apply the learnings from its Newell County Facility near Brooks, Alberta to other areas in the basin where CO2 storage projects are developing or have potential for CO2 storage.
“As the carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) sector rapidly evolves, subsurface research is critical to highlight storage potential in western Canada, predict the long-term behaviour of CO2 in the subsurface and demonstrate the impact carbon storage will have on global emissions reduction efforts,” says Neil Wildgust, President and CEO of Carbon Management Canada. “Partnerships with organizations like geoLOGIC are key to helping us achieve our vision to advance a thriving CCUS sector in Canada.”
As part of the JIP, geoLOGIC will have access to data and insights from CMC’s research and to the expertise from the broader JIP community.
“At geoLOGIC, one of our core values is to actively listen to the industry we serve with a particular focus on areas of rapid change, like CCUS," said Terry Jbeili, President and Chief Operating Officer at geoLOGIC.
"By partnering with CMC in Newell County, we not only keep ourselves aligned with some of the industry’s leading research efforts – but we can communicate and raise awareness of the research through our networks, domestically and internationally.”
"One example is our focus on communicating energy industry talent and skills development. CMC's CCUS research insights will be integrated into our training programs, ensuring the industry has the next generation workforce to deploy CCUS at scale."
geoLOGIC is one of more than 22 JIP members collaborating with CMC to inform and advance Canada’s low-carbon future.
