If you throw peanuts, you get Monkeys.
Bengaluru, Karnataka Oct 14, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - When you're looking for home interiors, don't be fooled by cheap prices or even expensive ones. At Mayatar, We guide you to save money, time, and frustration. We'll tell you how in this story of a customer who went with an unlicensed contractor.
To all the readers out there, my humble request to you is not to fall prey to any TOM DICK & HARRY who portrays themselves as interior designers & lose your hard-earned money. I am Balvinder Sodhi, a data analyst by profession working at TCS, E-city, Bangalore. I am married to Shagun Kaur who is a schoolteacher at Delhi Public school. We shifted from Chandigarh along with my parents who are in their late 60s due to my professional requirements. This incident started back in April 2021 when the Covid second wave was at its peak & the ongoing scenario was declared as "New Normal". With a little bit of savings & dad's retirement funds, we purchased a 3BHK flat. Completion of registration process during this time was a big headache as government personnel were irregular & often gave the pandemic a reason & delayed the overall process. The present locality where we stayed was declared as a Red zone & with parents suffering from diabetes & wife who was carrying for 7 months, my major concern was to shift them to a new & safe society ASAP.
Post-flat registration, and interior furnishing were the next hurdle that stood ahead of me. I happened to shortlist all the big market players in this segment & found that the prices they quoted were exorbitant. Although they were mentioning the usage of branded components for the build, it was clearly evident that these big brands were keeping their overheads & profits on the higher side considering my situation. This led me to look for alternatives & managed to find a decent number of local interior designers who offered to cater to my need considering my budget. The Quotes offered by every firm are unique & you will not be able to make an apple-to-apple comparison for finalization. This is one of the baits these people use to put the customer in dilemma as some quote per sq feet, some on overall commodity, some on material consideration & so on...
As the situation was growing worst, I managed to finalize one interior designing firm that I felt was reasonable & went into the deal by paying an advance of 40% of the overall project value. As the design stages concluded & raw products started reaching the site, I noticed many of the products were of cheap quality. Plywoods bulged & the brand that we discussed during the quotation stages was swapped stating supply constraints. Standard products such as hinges & sliding channels were in a rusted state & seemed like it was old stock & I suspect it was used & taken back from their previous projects as they didn't come with packing of any sort. The carpenters were clueless about the assembly process & often ended up doing mistakes as there were no designer-to-carpenter interaction documents or meetings. Looking at the overall proceedings I ended up with anxiety issues as I was not able to manage things single-handed. I had to shift my workplace from home to site & check the overall work as there was no supervision. The person who coordinated during the initial phases never visited the site & went absconding after two weeks of work proceedings. Carpenters who were visiting the site stopped coming as they were not paid. It was at this time I realized that I was in deep shit & had screwed up completely. The contractor didn't have legal registrations like GSTIN or even a registered company. & I wasn't able to take any help. To worsen it more, Shagun had to be taken to hospital as we had some pregnancy complications & required medical supervision regularly. In a week of time, my daughter Riya was born & she kept me occupied my whole time. I still can't recall how my paternity leave passed by planning & imagining how & what would she grow up to be. As the days passed good, nights were worse thinking about how to clean up the mess of my new home. The damage was done & I was supposed to accept my defeat & look for a solution so I went back to all interior designers who had approached me during my initial planning stages & no one came forward to complete the work that was started by someone else. In the due course, I came across a firm M/s. Mayatar Pvt Ltd who I had side-lined as I found them expensive & went ahead with a fraudster.
When I explained my scenario to Mayatar, They first agreed to check the site & understand what I was trying to convey. This team gave me a proper plan on the usage of Old materials & what would be the shortfalls. We again went back to the design stages, made necessary changes & signed a proper contract on bond paper. This firm seemed more organized as things were happening smoothly & it didn't require my involvement & worry about the outcome. I always found a supervisor on the site to manage the team & it helped me to stay at home & spend more time with Riya. Progress updates were reported on the WhatsApp group with photographs & videos giving you a sense of relief. This team had their creative offerings to each & every one at home. Be it a comfy work space for me, or a Bar counter for Dad. Roof-to-floor sliding door wardrobe & exotic kitchen for Shagun. Dream Pooja unit for Mom & Girl themed room for Riya. No doubt I had to shell out that extra buck as the build materials were all premium as we had opted for veneer in the Living & bedroom, Acrylic for the kitchen, & the Outcome is something that convinces me as my home has got that lavish feel. It's been more than a year now & still I have team Mayatar in touch, I have referred a couple of my relatives & we have witnessed similar results there too.
