Empowering Women in Health: Johannesburg Department of Health and Scientology Volunteer Ministers Unite for Women's Day

The Johannesburg Department of Health marked National Women’s Day with a momentous celebration held at the Castle Kyalami auditorium in collaboration with the Church of Scientology and the Scientology Volunteer Ministers.

The Johannesburg Department of Health marked National Women’s Day with a momentous celebration held at the Castle Kyalami auditorium in collaboration with the Scientology Volunteer Ministers. Celebrated on August 9th and throughout August, this month honors the courageous women who fought for equality and civil rights during the apartheid era in South Africa, reflecting the nation’s ongoing commitment to justice and equality.

The celebration brought together 250 female doctors, nurses, executives, and administrators from across the region. Among the distinguished attendees were the Chief Director of the Johannesburg District Department of Health, Mrs. Mogeru Morewane, and the Chief Directors of all other districts within the Gauteng province. Many of these attendees had already been trained as Scientology Volunteer Ministers, a reflection of the strong and growing partnership between the Volunteer Ministers and the Department of Health.

During her keynote address, Chief Director Mrs. Morewane expressed profound gratitude to the Church of Scientology for their unwavering support. “I would like to thank the Church of Scientology for hosting us today and for always being available to assist. You helped us immensely during the COVID-19 pandemic by sanitizing our clinics and providing vital health promotion education. I am looking forward to expanding our collaboration by training the staff of Joburg District Health in the Scientology Tools for Life to provide them with these social and spiritual support tools.”

Mrs. Morewane’s address underscored the significance of this collaboration. Announcing plans to systematically train her staff on the Scientology Tools for Life, with monthly seminars aimed at enhancing the skills of healthcare workers, she stated “This partnership is about more than just training. It’s about empowering our staff with the tools they need to support our communities holistically, addressing not just physical health but emotional and spiritual well-being as well.”

A highlight of the event was a presentation by a representative of the Church of Scientology, detailing the effectiveness of the Scientology Tools for Life program by L. Ron Hubbard. The presentation included a powerful success story video, featuring testimonials from health professionals whose lives and careers have been transformed by the training. This resonated strongly with those in attendance, many of whom expressed a desire to participate in the program.

In delivering the vote of thanks, Wellness Coordinator for Sub-District G, Ms. Nora Nkhwashu, shared her personal experience with the program. “This program changed my life,” she said. “And it will change yours too. It is a powerful program that provides real-world and practical approaches to handle situations in life, and I recommend you all get trained in it.”

The significance of this partnership was further emphasized by the other Chief Directors in attendance. They expressed their eagerness to extend the Scientology Tools for Life training to their respective staff members, commitment which could lead to several thousand more health professionals across Gauteng receiving this vital training, expanding the reach and impact of the partnership.

One attendee, a nurse from the Ekurhuleni District, shared her story during the event. “Before I took the Tools for Life training, I struggled with balancing the emotional demands of my job with my own well-being. Now, I feel equipped to not only care for my patients but also to support my colleagues. It’s like a weight has been lifted.”

Looking forward, the Johannesburg Department of Health and the Scientology Volunteer Ministers plan to build on this momentum. The collaboration aims to create a sustainable model for integrating social and spiritual support into healthcare, potentially serving as a blueprint for other regions. Future initiatives will include regular training sessions, community outreach programs, and the deployment of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers’ mobile support tents in local clinics.
