NEWS RELEASE

CLOSING OF U.S. CABLE SALE AND REDEMPTION
OF STAR CHOICE NOTES

Calgary, Alberta, July 8, 2003—Shaw Communications Inc. (Shaw) today announced that the sale of U.S. cable assets closed as anticipated in its press release of June 26, 2003. In addition, Shaw is proceeding with the redemption of the Star Choice Notes as previously announced and details and formal notice will be issued during the week of July 14, 2003.

Shaw Communications Inc. is a diversified Canadian communications company whose core business is providing broadband cable television, Internet and satellite direct-to-home (“DTH”) services to approximately 2.9 million customers. Shaw is traded on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges (Symbol: TSX – SJR.B, NYSE – SJR).
