Today Emerge Recovery TX announced that it now is offering treatment and rehabilitation services for women with co-occurring or dual diagnosis disorders. The center was founded to educate, support and nurture women as they develop and utilize skills to work through trauma and substance abuse disorders. The company’s vision is to provide a curative path to long-term recovery and a direct nexus between the decisive moment and crucial action that is needed to overcome suffering from addiction.
According to the center’s website, “A co-occurring disorder or dual diagnosis is an interchangeable term used to identify an individual who has one or more mental health disorders, along with substance use disorder (SUD). As noted by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (TDMHSAS), co-occurring disorders are not an exception, but rather the expectation for people diagnosed with SUD. “
The website page then lists the center’s “8 Dimensions of Wellness” as well as common co-occurring disorders with substance abuse disorder. These include, but are not limited to: depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, schizophrenia, and anxiety disorders.
Additionally, the same page cites an article about alcohol research which reads, “According to an article from Alcohol Research: Current Reviews Journal, when SUD co-occurs with one or more mental health disorders, it leads to poorer physical, emotional, and mental outcomes. Treatment plans that only focus on SUD leave little space, if any, to treat the whole person in body, mind, and spirit. “ It then continues, “As noted in an article from Help Guide, the symptoms of co-occurring disorders affect each other, so when one is not treated, it can negatively impact the disorder that is being treated. If the mental health component of SUD is not addressed, it makes it difficult to meet clients where they are and understand how substance use became a part of their life.”
