The new state-of-the-art wireless networks cover more than 18 miles of tunnels, designed to make travel and commuting easier, faster and more convenient. Riders can connect to the networks to use mobile tickets and the TrainTime app for up-to-the-minute information on train schedules and platform changes. They can also stay connected to work and enjoy streaming entertainment while in transit.

Atlantic Terminal is the LIRR’s third largest terminal, following Penn Station and the new Grand Central Madison. Jamaica Station is one of the busiest transportation hubs in the country, serving as a vital connection point for commuters and travelers throughout the region. Launching all Tier One cellular providers and Wi-Fi service across the Atlantic Branch marks the completion of a priority initiative for the MTA and LIRR.

Boingo Wireless designed, deployed and manages the cell and Wi-Fi connectivity for the Atlantic Branch. Boingo specializes in creating converged wireless technologies across carrier cell services and Wi-Fi to streamline transit operations, enhance network security and reliably connect riders and staff.

“Fast, secure connectivity is essential to New York’s transportation systems and the MTA, LIRR and Boingo have been hard at work modernizing these systems with next generation communications infrastructure,” said Boingo CEO Mike Finley. “Boingo is uniquely equipped as a neutral network provider that brings all Tier One cell carriers together to provide a seamless and enjoyable connected public transportation experience. Boingo’s network completion for the Atlantic Branch marks an incredible feat of engineering to deliver wireless coverage throughout miles and miles of complex tunnel and platform environments. Our team is proud to connect New York and do our part in satisfying wireless demands for an enhanced rider journey.”
