MetLife Pet Insurance Unleashes New Savings Calculator to Help Pet Parents Understand the Financial Benefits of Insuring Their Furry Loved Ones

Savings calculator designed to help pet parents understand the paws-itive impact of pet insurance on their financial wellness.

In recognition of Financial Literacy Month and to help pet parents better understand how much they can save on both preventative care and unexpected illnesses and accidents with pet health insurance, MetLife Pet Insurance announced today the release of its new savings calculator. The resource highlights how MetLife’s customizable insurance plans can reimburse up to 90%1 of vet bills around common pet illnesses, accidents, and preventative care, and help pet parents feel confident in their ability to cover health-related expenses.

A recent survey2 from MetLife Pet and OnePoll found health needs were the most expensive cost pet parents faced in 2023, averaging $1,242 on vet visits. What’s more, last year, 45% said their pet went through a major health event, though 82% of them weren’t financially prepared for the cost of it. Given only 58% of pet parents said they had pet insurance, those without this coverage faced a significant financial impact when trying to address these unexpected costs.

To help alleviate the stress associated with paying for pet care, the new savings calculator illustrates how MetLife’s Pet Insurance offering can help mitigate the costs of treatment for many health issues that arise throughout a pet’s life, including:

  • Accidents: Accidents, such as a broken bone or poisoning, can happen unexpectedly – and these are often followed by a large vet bill, particularly for significant accidents. MetLife Pet Insurance can help provide mental and financial peace of mind during these stressful moments.
  • Preventive Care: Just as people take precautionary steps to protect their health, MetLife Pet Insurance can provide financial support for costs related to preventative pet care, including dental cleaning, spaying/neutering, vaccination, and parasite prevention.
  • Illnesses: Whether it’s skin allergies, heart disease, growth or tumor, or diabetes, MetLife Pet Insurance has short- and long-term illnesses covered.

“Every pet parent should have the opportunity to make important decisions about their pet’s health without cost being the deciding factor,” said Brian Jorgensen, CEO of MetLife Pet Insurance. “Particularly during Financial Literacy Month, we can’t overlook the significance of pet health insurance when it comes to ensuring the financial wellness of pet parents. Just as we take steps to protect our physical health, pet insurance can help protect pet parents’ financial health when it comes to routine and emergency care for our pets.”

The savings calculator was created to demonstrate the considerable impact MetLife’s Pet Insurance offering can have in terms of financial support for regular and unexpected vet costs. But MetLife Pet believes support should go beyond the financials, empowering pet parents throughout their entire parenthood journey – this includes access to a live 24/7 vet chat3 in its innovative mobile app, along with lost pet coverage, grief counseling4 support, and more.
