Hey Carter! Books Announces Launch of New Book Fros, Braids, Fades & Waves On National Haircut Day

A Celebration of Hairstyles that bring Black Boys joy worldwide!

CONCORD, Calif. - March 10, 2022 - PRLog -- Hey Carter! Books continues to spread diversity and representation with their best selling children's book series. We typically see literature showcasing different hairstyles for Black girls but, this time around Dr. Thomishia Booker is celebrating the hairstyles commonly associated with Black boys. Hey Carter! Books was built on the foundation of Black and Brown children having the opportunity to connect with literature that is a representation of themselves.

Fros, Braids, Fades &  Waves is a rhyming ode to the many ways young boys can style their hair. The vibrant illustrations by Starvos Pierce make the words jump off the page and allow Black boys to see themselves clearly. It doesn't matter what hairstyle a young boy in your life is currently wearing, this book will build his self esteem positively in a major way. Inspired by her son's hair journey, Dr. Booker wants to instill the same confidence in boys all over the world.

"My son wore his hair in a fro up until he was five years old. He had long hair and a head full of curls. I will never forget the day he asked his father and I to cut his hair. When we told others we were met with unsolicited feedback and fear based projections. "What about his curls?" "He won't be a little boy anymore?" "Are you sure you want to do that?" We were so excited about supporting his autonomy and agency over his hair. We saw this as an opportunity to celebrate our son making "big boy" decisions. We spent a few weeks showing him all of his options. We showed him every style we could find and allowed him to choose the hairstyle he would feel most confident in. It was a big decision to make for a 5-year-old but we could tell it was important to him. His final choice was a mohawk with a fade and the smile he had on his face when he turned around in the barber chair said it all. He felt confident," stated Dr. Booker.

Presales are currently active and the official book sales will begin on National Haircut Day, Friday, March 11th. For more information about Hey Carter!
