From Guangxi to Cambodia: Strengthening Construction Education through International Cooperation

As the only public vocational college specializing in construction in the Guangxi Autonomous Region, Guangxi Polytechnic of Construction has cultivated a large number of construction engineers and technical elites during 65 years of school history. The college enjoys the reputation as the “Cradle of Guangxi’s Technicians” and “Construction Talent Base”.

Relying on the college’s specialization in Construction, GXPC has jointly established one “China-ASEAN Construction Talent Training Base” with the (Cambodia) National Technical Training Institute (NTTI). Both two sides have organized forums with experts, cultural exchange activities, and seminars on Curriculum Standards and Achievement Sharing. All the cooperation has been creating an international brand with the characteristics of “GXPC”.

I.Theresource poolof International Curricula for the Construction Major is Taking Shape.

 

The college has developed a series of international course resources for the Construction major, including Chinese English Bilingual MOOCs, Syllabus, Courseware and Exercises , in accordance with the requirements for establishing high standard international course resource. At present, we have completed the establishment of two international course resources, “BIM Engineering Management Practical Workshop I” and “BIM Engineering Management Practical Workshop II“.

The “BIM Applied Technology” curriculum standard on which the above courses  has been certified by SEAMEO TED (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Technical Education Development) and CATECP (China-ASEAN Technical Education Cooperation Platform), and 10 lecturers and professors have also been included in the ASEAN Expert Database. In addition, approximately 70 overseas students received the qualification certificate after the BIM certification training and examination.

II.Cultural Exchange Activities Have AchievedFruitful Results

To deepen the communication and cooperation with partners from oversea universities , GXPC makes use of lectures, training courses, and other forms of events to help achieve the goal of cultivating international awareness among teachers and students through international projects. Among them, one seminar was held with NTTI, during which nearly 20 experts and teachers from both sides engaged in in-depth cooperation and discussion on issues such as “teacher training for Cambodia”. Also, the China-ASEAN Intelligent Construction Vocational Education High-quality Development Forum was co-hosted between GPXC and NTTI. Two experts were invited from the Philippines and Cambodia to give keynote speeches.

At the same time, experts from Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and other countries were invited to hold four international lectures, benefiting over 400 Chinese teachers, students, and enterprise employees; the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Architecture and Planning, and the School of Engineering Management held a total of 14 external training sessions, focusing on “The Application of BIM Technology”, “Engineering Cost”, and “Landscape Engineering”, to achieve the series of external training goals of “Training Vocational Education Teachers in Cambodia”.

III. Having A Comprehensive International Social Media System

Besides the construction of the “China-ASEAN Construction Talent Training Base”, its supporting English official websites was also on the way, providing an international social media and platform to get multi understanding home and abroad.

At present, all the events and activities related to “China-ASEAN Construction Talent Training Base” has made real-time speeches to overseas schools via five official social media and promotion platforms overseas, including an international English website, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube, achieving overall exposure to tens of thousands of people overseas.
