Wing Luke Museum’s Cassie Chinn Announces Retirement

Museum veteran and Deputy Executive Director begins phased retirement from the Wing Luke Museum after serving 30 years

SEATTLE, WA / ACCESSWIRE / July 8, 2024 / The Wing Luke Museum Deputy Executive Director Cassie Chinn announced her retirement from the Museum today, effective Aug. 8. Chinn, a prominent and long-standing fixture in and community advocate for the Chinatown-International District, begins a phased transition through Dec. 23, 2024.

Chinn's phased transition enables the smooth implementation of the Museum's succession plan, which includes activating its internal staff succession team, hiring an executive search firm to begin a nationwide search for her successor, and maintaining continuity with several projects underway, including the Eng Family Homestead development and the relaunch of the Confronting Hate Together exhibit.

Her phased departure also ensures the effective transition of Chinn's institutional knowledge and community relationships to her eventual replacement. She arrived at her decision after a thoughtful process and is confident that her transition was possible, given its new three-year strategic plan, and strong leadership, Board of Trustees, and staff.

"As I look to pursue new projects, this is a bittersweet decision," Chinn says. "Yet I am excited for the opportunities that may lie ahead. As the Museum embarks on the next phase of its growth, I feel confident that I am leaving the institution in a good place, especially with the commitment of our staff and leadership."

The Museum's Executive Director, Joël Barraquiel Tan, offered deep appreciation for Chinn's many contributions over 30 years at Wing Luke.

"Cassie's impact on the Museum and in the community is unparalleled and there will be a void left at the Museum, with her retirement," says Barraquiel Tan. "It is with a full heart that I acknowledge Cassie's contributions to the C-ID, our Museum, and the Art, Culture & Heritage communities she has so broadly influenced. Cassie's incredible legacy will be felt for years to come. We are eternally grateful to her."
