Live Nation’s DJ Khaled Faces Lawsuit For Alleged Sabotage Of Rival DJ

DJ Khaled has been sued by rival DJ and fellow Tampa-based rapper, DJ Short-E. DJ Short-E, whose real name is Erik Mishiyev, has accused DJ Khaled of using his wealth and influence in the music industry to stifle his career and seeks $10,000,000 in damages.

DJ Short-E, who originally hails from Brooklyn, NY, has launched multiple lawsuits in state and federal Florida courts against record producer, DJ, and record executive, DJ Khaled and his record label We the Best Music, Inc., and radio giant Beasley Media Group. DJ Khaled has been alleged to have taken part in an ongoing campaign to keep DJ Short-E out of business.

Tampa’s DJ Short-E has sued Miami’s DJ Khaled for several counts, accusing the record producer of anti-Semitism, commercial bribery, and a host of business torts. DJ Short-E alleges that DJ Khaled, who started as a Miami-based radio hype man and pirate radio DJ, has used his connections to stifle his growth within the industry. Mishiyev claims this ongoing public and private campaign ruined his credibility and reputation as a premiere DJ in the area.

DJ Short-E alleges that DJ Khaled is part of a joint attempt to destroy his career, supported by other players in the record industry. Other participants in the alleged plot have been named as Orlando Davis, host of the Wild 94.1’s morning show in Tampa. Evidence submitted in the complaint includes public social media posts from Davis, as well as corroborations from former employees of the radio stations.

The allegations also accuse Khaled of working with Bootleg Kev, an on-air personality for 95.7FM (The Beat) an iHeartMedia station, and Davis, the long-time station manager and host of Orlando and the Freakshow. Mishiyev claims Davis has conspired with Khaled to ruin his reputation to the point that he can no longer find employment as he once could. Short-E maintains that there was a concerted effort between iHeartMedia and Beasley Media, directed by Khaled, to prevent him from working on radio or having his music on air. Mishiyev claims Khaled has paid off the station’s program directors to act as his gatekeepers.

It is alleged that the radio station, 94.1, has worked for over two decades to put a stop to his rival’s rise to fame due to racial and religious. Furthermore, DJ Short-E has alleged that DJ Khaled sabotaged a 2006 hip-hop contest, preventing Short-E’s artist, Verbal Science, from winning a deal with Epic Records. DJ Short-E further alleges that all parties used their contacts and resources at Google to get his YouTube channel taken down in January 2019, at the point it had 250k subs and over 100 million views.

With accusations of discrimination, anti-competitive behavior, and sabotage, DJ Short-E seeks to win $10,000,000 in damages in the courts, citing the losses suffered to his career as both a DJ/rapper and YouTuber. He is also planning to add iHeartMedia and some of their Tampa employees to the suit. Currently, Dj Khaled, Davis, and Beasley Media Group are trying to get the lawsuit dismissed, while filing a protective order and refusing to cooperate with the discovery process or answer dispositions. DJ Short-E has also filed a complaint with the Department of Justice, which already has a lawsuit against Live Nation Entertainment, which manages DJ Khaled. The hearings are scheduled next month in July 2024.

DJ Short-E has since been trying to re-invent himself and now heads Hot Forever Inc., a production company specializing in events, music, fashion, and TV. He is also currently planning to release a tell-all documentary about the allegations, which has a trailer currently available at www.hotforever.com
