Ms. Sabeeda Thaised, Deputy Minister of Interior, presided over the grand opening of “OTOP TO THE WORLD” held under the theme “Thai Wisdom, Pride for the World.” The event gathered senior officials from the Ministry of the Interior, partner agencies, OTOP entrepreneurs, tourists, and members of the public. Delivering the opening remarks, Mr. Siam Sirimongkol, Director General of the Community Development Department, underscored the initiative’s purpose.
Ms. Sabeeda emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurs by raising product standards to 3-5 stars, expanding market access, and showcasing Thailand’s cultural heritage. She noted that the event, in alignment with the government’s Soft Power policy, allows international visitors to experience the growth of OTOP products while offering unique opportunities to purchase high-value items. This initiative not only elevates community products but also creates sustainable employment, enhances local incomes, and provides communities access to modern knowledge and funding sources.
With Thailand hosting the 2024 MotoGP World Championship at Chang International Circuit, attracting internationally renowned motorcyclists and large crowds of both local and foreign tourists, the Ministry of the Interior entrusted the Community Development Department with organizing this event. The goal is to bring OTOP products and local wisdom to a global stage, providing greater visibility and revenue for local producers while giving international visitors a memorable experience.
Mr. Siam Sirimongkol explained that the Community Development Department, under the Ministry of the Interior’s direction, is driving the “One Tambon, One Product” initiative. This program aims to strengthen the grassroots economy by adding value to OTOP products and enhancing marketing channels. The department’s efforts focus on expanding public awareness of OTOP products and building the capacity of producers and entrepreneurs for future participation in international trade. The event is being held in a large, air-conditioned dome, featuring a curated selection of products rooted in local wisdom from across Thailand, offering a comprehensive shopping, viewing, and tasting experience.
The event showcases over 200 booths featuring OTOP products across five main categories—food, beverages, clothing, home decor and souvenirs, and non-food herbal products—and highlights celebrated provincial cuisine, live demonstrations of local craftsmanship, cultural performances, mini-concerts, and an opening ceremony celebrating Buriram’s unique cultural heritage. Additionally, attendees can participate in daily prize drawings.
The public is invited to explore over 200 local vendors and engage in a variety of activities at the event, taking place from October 23–27, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, at Chang Arena, Muang District, Buriram Province.
