Chevrolet, Dodge, and Ford all feature on the list of dangerous car models.
—
Following previous confirmation that California is the second deadliest state for drivers with a total of 3,983 fatal car accidents recorded in 2023, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data has revealed the most dangerous vehicles in the US.
Small Vehicles Face Big Problems
It is estimated that over 36,000 road accidents occur, ranging from minor issues to fatalities, in the US daily. While all vehicles could be at risk, resulting in drivers requiring help from experts like Lemon Law Assist, the latest data shows that smaller cars tend to be at the greatest threat - not least when it comes to the most severe situations.
When purchasing a car, safety should be a top concern for all drivers. Unfortunately, The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) states that smaller vehicles are more likely to be involved in serious accidents and fatalities as a result of their reduced size and mass. Notably, they come off far worse in crashes with other vehicles.
Research shows that the Chevrolet Impala is the most dangerous vehicle in the US. The car is involved in 7.0 fatalities per 10,000 sold cars. The fact it has now been discontinued for a few years means that any models still on the roads will have encountered wear and tear, which is why owners should be keen to implement regular servicing.
The Dodge Challenger sits second on the list with 6.1 fatalities per 10,000 sold cars while the Ford Fiesta also ranks high with 4.9 fatalities per 10,000 sold cars. The Nissan Versa, Kia Soul, and Kia Optima all feature in the top 12 too. This includes older used cars and new-generation models alike.
Dodge also tops the list when looking at manufacturers as a whole with 4.03 fatal crashes per 1,000 drivers while Mitsubishi (2.81 per 1,000) and Buick (2.78 per 1,000) take the unenviable second and third spots on the list, although there are significant contrasts between certain models.
What Should Drivers Do Following Persistent Car Problems?
Drivers buying new vehicles may actively wish to void the most dangerous models of 2024, but the harsh reality is that car owners may face problems regardless of which manufacturer they opt for. However, if they encounter issues during the warranty period, their car is considered a lemon. In this case, it is possible to seek compensation and legal justice with the help of a dedicated attorney.
