3 November, 2023 - Bengaluru - The 16th edition of the iconic Bengaluru Midnight Marathon (BMM) is set to captivate runners worldwide this December 2023. This year's event promises an extraordinary experience as it introduces the Rotary 5K Run, in honour of our Chief Guest Rotary International President – Rtn. Gordon McInally, who will himself flag off the Full Marathon at 11.15pm. The much-anticipated BMM 2023, a member of AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races) and one of the leading Marathons run in the world, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Karnataka Trade Promotion Organisation (KTPO), Whitefield, Bangalore.
Online registrations for all individual events, have been officially announced. The key individual events on December 16, 2023 will include the PhonePe Full Marathon, Agriplast Half Marathon, Akamai 10k Run, Wissen Fun & Furious 5K Run (timed and untimed) and the new addition – Rotary 5K Run. The theme for this year’s BMM is aptly chosen as ‘Run for Mental Wellness’, a poignant acknowledgment of the crucial role physical activity plays in mental health. RI President Gordon McInally, “As Rotary President for 2023-24, I am placing a special focus on global mental health.”
Ritesh Bindal, Chairman, BMM 2023 shared, “In alignment with our 'Run for Mental Wellness' theme, we're excited to introduce the timed Rotary 5K Run, supporting both amateur and professional runners on their journey to longer distances. Therefore, to motivate all, we have introduced prize money awards in 4 age categories for both men and women, in the 10K Run and Half Marathon events. We look forward to more participation from across the country”.
Gul Mohamed, Race Director, BMM 2023 added, “RBITC’s Bengaluru Midnight Marathon has received tremendous recognition since its inception and also has the distinction of being the first Marathon that happens at night. We believe that running can promote a healthier body and a happier mind, making it an essential element in our Marathon this year.”
Organised by Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor (RBITC), the first edition of the Bengaluru Midnight Marathon was held on May 19, 2007 and has seen increasing participation every year since. With a legacy spanning 15 years, it draws over 11,000 participants from 21 countries and 22 States in India, cementing its status as a global ambassador of long distance running.
President of Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor (RBITC) Rtn. Anil Danti shared, “BMM is the flagship fundraising event for RBITC’s social service projects which are focused on Education, Healthcare and Environment, with a strong focus on Women and Child Development.”
